Day 8 Review - Lunch at GkA

As we were doing two cruises 'back-to-back' we had a full day in Dubrovnik on 'change over day' This made up for the late check on our first day of the Adriatic Affair cruise.

Old haunts...

We last visited Dubrovnik in June 2007, and at that time we stayed for a few nights at the Dubrovnik Palace hotel, just outside the city in Lapad. On that occasion we had an evening meal at Gradska kavana Arsenal which was excellent.

Location

Gradska kavana Arsenal (Arsenal for short) is located behind the iconic arched front on the Old Port, so its usually visible in the marketing imagery of Dubrovnik shot from the hillside above. We were aiming for a drink, but as it was lunchtime, you needed to be eating if you wished to overlook the harbour.

So, we decided to eat a light lunch, which was fantastic (again!).

Service

Service is excellent at Arsenal, with the waiters and waitresses all smartly dressed in their black and white uniforms. Although it was busy, we were seated in minutes, right in middle of the arched area.

Our waiter very attendant and quickly taking our order after we'd chosen.

Lunch

We ordered:

  • Bread selection - excellent basket of bread to be eaten with Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar if desired
  • Octopus Salad - fantastic mix of salad leaves, pickled seaweed (?), tomatoes, capers, fish roe (Caviar?) and pickles.
  • Buratta Salad - an equally delicious, super creamy full cheese with nice salad
  • 75Cl bottle of sparking Jamnica water
  • 500ml bottle of Karlovacko Limun Radler ( a light 2% shandy type beer, with Lemon juice - very refreshing)

It really was great - and a nice treat after our time up on the slopes in the morning.

Final bill was 52 Euro (excluding our tip), which we paid with our Dutch Euro bank card - no problems at all.

Ambience

The restaurant has a great area to the front if you wish to watch people coming down the pedestrian areas outside, cool interior spaces and the 'arched' area at the rear, where you can look over the harbour.
